eart1San Diego, June 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter Scale rocked parts of Southern California on Monday night although reports of damage or any kind of injury has not been reported as yet.

According to the details that have been furnished by the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was triggered around five miles at the southeast direction of Ocotillo in the San Diego County at 9:26 p.m on Monday night.

Apart from the 5.7 magnitude earthquake, it has also been reported that at least a dozen of tremors also accompanied the quake although they were of much lesser strength. Following the series of earthquake, the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services placed calls across cities in the county but did not come across any reports that indicated damage to life and property.

Meanwhile, seismologist Egill Hauksson, who is associated with the California Institute of Technology situated in Pasadena, added that the series of tremors that rocked the southern parts of California were aftershocks of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that had hit the Baja California and Southern California on Easter Sunday.

Experts have also pointed out that the large number of tremors that were felt on Monday night were not really unusual as the aftershocks can continue for months following a high magnitude earthquake.

In the meanwhile, owning to Monday night’s earthquake, the game between the Toronto Blue Rays and the San Diego Padres that was taking place in the Petco Stadium came to a momentary stop when the tremors could be felt.

However, the game recommenced once again soon after the tremors had receded.
