Selangor, Jan 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Enjoying an intimate New Year’s eve with one’s partner is not something unusual these days but it appears that some countries still treat it as a misconduct and restrict couples from such acts. When the whole world was busy in the celebration of the New Year’s eve, more than fifty unmarried couples were arrested in Malaysian hotel raids. As per the reports, once the allegations of sexual misconduct brought against them is proved, these couples might have to face an imprisonment sentence of up to two years. They might also have to pay financial penalty for this act.
The reports state that the couples were arrested from the budget hotels located in central Selangor on the night of December 31. It has been reported that most of the people who were arrested on that day were either young factory workers or students. However, sources also stated that an elderly woman of 54 was also among the unmarried couples, who were booked under the Islamic Shariah law of Malaysia. The woman, who is reported to be a grandmother of eight children was in a compromising position with a man [38 year], when officers knocked the door.
Selangor Islamic Department’s spokesperson, Hidayat Abdul Rani said that they arrested the couples as Shariah law prevents Muslim couples to share a private place before their marriage. He also said that they have decided to raid on the new year’s eve as a large number of people commit these kinds of sexual offense on this day mostly. The officials did not reveal the identity of the people who were arrested from the hotel rooms.
