lionsNov 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Peter Evershed, a 59-year-old Zimbabwean businessman, was killed by a pride of five lions as he was taking a shower under a tree, in an unfenced area of Chitake Camping site in northern Zimbabwe. He reportedly went there with his wife Jane.

According to Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara, Mashonaland West provincial police spokesman, Peter Evershed was taking a shower under a tree in that risky area. He was the last one amongst his group to take the shower over there. All of a sudden he was surrounded by a pride of lions, who gave him continuous attack for quite sometime. Responding to his scream some of the other tourists, drove to that spot and flashed their headlights at the eyes of the lions in order to scare them away. However, that did not stop the lions from attacking him and it continued until Steven Pop fired shots in the air to scare and dismiss the lions. The victim suffered from a fatal throat would.

Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force head Johnny Rodrigues said that the increase in the frequency of illegal hunting in the current economic meltdown of Zimbabwe has many wild animals more aggressive than ever before. Although, hardly any attack has been made against the lions in that region. Earlier, an African business executive Don Hornsby, was chased and killed by an elephant in nearby Matusadona preserve. Another elephant attack was reported in September, businessman Geoff Blythe was riding a cycle in the lakeside town of Kariba, when he was attacked and killed by an elephant 230 miles (370 kilometers) northwest of Harare. Veteran conservationist Steve Kok also faced similar fate, when he was charged and killed by a buffalo, when he was trying to destroy traps and wire snares laid by poachers. The tourism industry of Zimbabwe seems at risk due to the sequential mishaps by animals.
