Washington, Dec 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), announced a recall of the Dorel Infant Car Seat/Carriers. They also advised the consumers that they should stop using this recalled car seat/carrier immediately unless otherwise instructed. In all about 447,000 units are going to be affected and recalled.
The manufacturer of the recalled products Dorel Juvenile Group Inc., of Columbus, Ind. has agreed with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) guidelines and has also issued an advisory to recall the product. It has agreed, because when the seat is used as an infant carrier, then the child restraint handle to the seat can loosen and come off, which poses a fall hazard to the infants. There have been many instances about this loose handle and Dorel has received about 77 reports of the faulty child restraint handle till now. There have been 3 incidents in which the infant was injured also. The injuries ranged from bump on the head to bruises and even a serious head injury.
This recall involves the Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney-branded infant car seat/carriers with the following model numbers and that were manufactured from January 6, 2008 through April 6, 2009. The model number and manufacture date are located on a label on the side of the car seat/carrier. They were sold with Travel Systems.
However it needs to be mentioned that the stroller portion of the travel system is not affected by this recall.
Dorel is advising all the consumers that they should not use the carriers until the repair kit has been properly installed on it, to prevent further mishaps.
