pythonA massive 18 feet long Burmese python was seized by the wild life officials at a Florida house on Friday. The 16 years old giant snake is said to weigh about 400 pounds.

The officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had gone on a visit, acting on an anonymous tip, to determine whether the cage that was holding Delilah was secure enough to contain the monster or not. Also, concern related to her huge size tipped off the visit. Some of the visiting officials at the Apopka backyard claimed that Delilah was by far the biggest python that they have ever come across. While the officials waited to carry her away to safety, the giant snake slowly finished seven rabbits for her breakfast alone.

Delilah’s owner had admitted of owning her for almost 16 long years. She was kept chained to her backyard cage all the while. However, the owner admitted that on many instances, she found ways to make it past her cage and get away to safety. The members of the Cheever family, who owned the pet python said that the snake was absolutely docile and happy in her lodging.

The wildlife officials are now investigating whether the Cheevers had a valid and proper permit to have the snake at all or not. For possessing a reptile of that immense size, owners have to have valid permits that allow them to do so. Also, they need to have a written and sanctioned contingency plan in case of the snake’s escape or in the face of any natural disaster.

Delilah has now been placed under the care of a licensed caregiver.
