23rd Annual AIDS Walk To Be Held At San Francisco

aidsThe 23rd Annual AIDS Walk is scheduled to take place in San Francisco on Sunday, the 19th of July, 2009 at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Once more it is going to be an event where people from all walks of life is going to come and share the common walk together and pitch in their support of the common cause of battling against the most feared disease in the modern day world, HIV/ AIDS. The walk is meant to show support for all those victims who are affected by the life threatening disease, for which no cure has been found till date.

This initiative has been carried on for almost over a period of 22 years and has become a part of the culture and tradition in San Francisco. The fund raising walkathon is an effort to aid the San Francisco AIDS Foundation as well as other HIV/AIDS organizations who are functional in the 6 Bay Area countries.

It is estimated that there is going to be a big turnout of almost 25,000 people, who will be participating in the walk which is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. (the opening is going to be at 9:45 a.m.) in Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park. Besides raising money, the event also aims to create awareness regarding the deadly disease.

Special guests who are going to appear and speak at the Walk are Dan Ashley (ABC 7), Fernando and Greg (Energy 92.7), Tim’m T. West (poet, lyricist and activist) and Mark Cloutier (SFAF, CEO). The musical performance is going to be by Julie Garnye, who is going to give vocals to the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
