Dec 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) 2010 Census Results have been declared. However, considering the current population growth and alteration, many people are expecting that there should be some changes in the Congressional make-up too. This should mainly be attributed to the illegal immigration, who are disabling the efficient functioning of the current formation of the congress.
Illegal immigrants are regarded as part of U.S. Census by law, and therefore, considering their contribution in the nation’s population, sources are under the impression that it would surely make an impact in the house seats. Steven Camarota, research director with the Center for Immigration Studies said that Michigan and Pennsylvania would lose some seats, that are likely to be incorporated in some other states, that are populated with immigrants. Michigan had a population change by -0.6%. Many states like South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Arizona and Nevada, can gain a few extra seats, as they witnessed an increase in the number of immigrants in the last ten years. According to the CIS analysis, many of these illegal immigrants are deprived from voting. Therefore, the law has to introduce a few more districts for the wellbeing of the immigrants and provide them with more constitutional rights.
Texas has added would be having four more districts for the Hispanic population, who would be challenging the republicans. It would be increased to 26 from 32 seats. New York on the other hand would lose three seats to make it 27 from 29. The census board has counted more than 13.1 million new immigrants in this decade, while the women from the immigrant community gave birth to 8.2 million children, that further adds up to the population of these communities.
