untitled-12New York, Nov.12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) New York’s contemporary-art auction exhibited some of the marvelous art pieces and gained huge appreciation from the bidders. The major attraction of the auction was the “200 One Dollar Bills“, a work of Andy Warhol done in 1962. It has been one of the most popular art pieces of the auction and was estimated to fetch in between eight million dollars to twelve million dollars to the seller. However, the artwork gained much more than the seller expected. “200 One Dollar Bills” was finally sold at a price of 43.8 million dollars.

Sources stated that a telephone bidder has purchased the artwork yet the identity of the bidder was not disclosed to the media. The media representatives reporting the incident also could not reach the seller for his comments. According to sources, the seller of the artwork was Pauline Karpidas, a collector based in London. There were fifty four artworks displayed in this auction and all of them were sold, except two. This auction has been quite profitable for the organizers as it gained approximately 134.4 million dollars.

Though all the artworks sold in this auction were beautiful, “200 One Dollar Bills’ was exceptional. It was among the earliest silkscreen works of Andy Warhol. The gray and black silkscreen painting done in a seven and half feet wide canvas has two hundred dollar bills’ images of life size. The treasury seal of blue color made them even more brilliant. Silk screen painting was the signature art of Andy Warhol and the popularity of his art in the present days has been proved by this painting.
