2 arrested in USF Lockout case
October 6th, 2009 - 6:36 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattFlorida, Oct 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Two suspects were arrested in the USF lockout case. One suspect who was dressed in a green and yellow shirt was arrested in the afternoon by the police authorities.
Another suspect who was described in a text message as “White male subject seen in the Cooper Hall area in black tank top, cowboy hat carrying black puppy and a large hunting knife-officers in route.” was being hunted for by the police.
Later, a police spokesman told the Tampa Tribune a man stood up on a campus bus and said he was the one authorities were looking for. He told them he had a bomb, but later said it was just a hoax, spokeswoman Laura McElroy told the newspaper.
Students had been advised to stay way from the campus completely. Text messages and updates on the university’s website were done to make them aware of the possible dangers of the suspects and the gunmen on the prowl. The university’s transit system was also suspended in lieu of this and emergency sirens were also set up in place.
The suspect’s backpack was examined for a possible bomb threat, by the bomb disposal squad, but nothing of danger was found there. Police gave a ‘All Clear’ signal to the university authorities.
