16-year-old sailor Abby Sunderland feared lost at sea

Abby Sunderland Madagascar, Jun 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sixteen year old Abby Sunderland who wanted to create a record of being the youngest sailor ever to circumnavigate the globe, is in trouble. There are reports, which suggest that she might be lost in the sea, as her crew have lost contact with her boat.

Sunderland’s support team’s engineer – Jeff Casher said that she has activated two emergency beacons on her boat, which mean that she is in trouble and needs help. MaryAnne Sunderland also confirmed that the emergency beacons were activated by her daughter, and also added that she did so at around 6 am Pacific Time on Thursday.

When contact was last established with Abby, then her boat was experiencing 35-knot winds along with waves in the range of 20-25 foot. Abby’s family is putting together a rescue team.

As per the last known location of Abby, the nearest land is the Reunion Island, which is located east of Madagascar, and the nearest ship in that region is also 400 miles away. The rescue team is doing their utmost to get in touch with the ship, so that it can alter its course and head to the location, where Abby is suspected to be and rescue her.
