fire Sep 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) At least four homes have been destroyed and over 1500 more evacuated because of the 3500 acre fire which is raging in Herriman, Utah which was said to have started during a training exercise by The National Guard. According to reports, the fire quickly became too large for the Guardsmen to handle with their limited resources.

With winds gusting to 50 miles an hour, the fire is spreading very fast and around 3500 acres have already been affected, according to Captain Brad Taylor. Lt Don Hutson also commented, saying that the whole side of the mountain looks like it is on fire, and flames at the mountain top are “coming up against structures”, according to ‘World News Media Headlines’.

The Governor of Utah, Gary Herbert stated that he is not sure whether or not the fire will spread any further, and added that much of it depends on the weather. The rising winds during the day has made the job of the 150 firefighters more difficult. FEMA is on standby to give assistance although a state of emergency has not yet been declared. The evacuees are being placed in shelters by the Red Cross.
