As many as 153 people are feared to be dead in the Yemen Airline crash; out of which 142 are passengers and the rest 11, members of the crew. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 29. As stated by a government official, the Yemeni state carrier Yemenia Air crashed in to the sea, while it attempted to land on the Indian Ocean archipelago of Comoros.
From the airport at the main island’s capital Moroni, Comoros Vice President Idi Nadhoim told Reuters, “The plane has crashed and we still don’t know exactly where. We think it’s in the area of Mitsamiouli.”
A spokeswoman for the Paris Airport said that a Yemenia flight had taken off from Paris on Monday morning before it landed in Yemen (Arabian Peninsula country), after which it took off for Moroni. A representative of ASECNA (the Agency for Aviation Security and Navigation in Africa and Madagascar), Ibrahim Kassim said that the flight would have probably come down 5 to 10 km (3 to 6 miles) from the coast. Civilian and military boats had already been involved in the search procedures. He told Reuters,”We think the crash is somewhere along its landing approach. The weather is really not very favorable. The sea is very rough.”
The Director General of Moroni International Airport told the press that two French military aircraft and a French vessel have been sent from the island of Mayotte and Reunion to search for the plane in the identified zone.
Yemen Airline has still not come out with the passenger list of the ill fated plane or the contact number.
