KABUL, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) – At least 15 people were injured after two explosive devices detonated in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday night, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force informed on Thursday.

Insurgents planted the two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Jalalabad where insurgents have been directly targeting Afghan civilians and setting IEDs in places where Afghans travel, work and gather in large numbers.

“We condemn this callous attack against the Afghan people. It is another demonstration of insurgents’ contempt for innocent civilians,” said Admiral Greg Smith, ISAF Director of Communication.

The twin attack took place in the late hours of Wednesday near the District Prosecutor’s office in the Nangahar Provincial capital. In addition to the wounded civilians, nearby facilities and other property were damaged.

“Our sympathies are with the families and friends of those harmed by this attack. ISAF stands shoulder to shoulder with our Afghan partners, and together we will continue to drive the insurgents out of areas where they can hurt the Afghan people.”

Insurgents usually employ tactics that result in indiscriminate violence like their frequent use of IEDs demonstrated. This year, insurgent IEDs have killed and wounded approximately 1,500 civilians.
