Douglas, Dec 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a major blow to the drug landlords, 13.6 kgs of crystal meth was seized at the Arizona-Mexico border by the officials. A man was trying to smuggle it into Arizona, but his wishes were thwarted when the border authorities intercepted his pickup truck at the Douglas Port of Entry. This incident happened on last Friday.

According to reports, officials of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection asked a pickup truck to stop at the border and they searched the vehicle. The search revealed numerous packages of crystal meth that were hidden inside a secret compartment behind the back seat. The value of all the packages is estimated to be around $1.4 million.

The pickup truck was being driven by an 18 years old driver, who is said to be an inhabitant of Hermosillo, which is located in Sonora. The driver of the truck wasn’t identified and is said to be in the custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“These kinds of monies are the direct results of illegal activities. There is no doubt that it would have been used to support and assist those activities that threaten our local and national security. Customs and Border Protection remains firm in its commitment to secure our nation’s border,” according to Michael Humphries, who is the area port director for the Douglas and Naco ports of entry.
