t1largspraycangiMar 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The parents of teenagers are mostly concerned about the chances of their offsprings getting addicted to nicotine and other forms of addiction when they enter adolescence. However, a recent survey has found out that teenagers above 12 years are getting addicted to inhalants. The number of teenagers using inhalants is much more than those who use marijuana, alcohol and cocaine. Since the inhalants are not illegal and easily available, they do not have much difficulty in accessing them. While some of these inhalants are not exactly harmful, there are some specimens which can cause adverse effects if a person continues to inhale it on a daily basis.

The National Inhalant Prevention Coalition has admitted that it is a new trend among the teenage boys and girls. Some of the inhalants consist of certain chemical compounds that can have a harmful effect on the human body in the long run. In some cases, huffing can prove to be dangerous to the teenagers, the experts have cautioned. In some cases, it may even lead to cardiac arrest. Kevin Talley lost his daughter Amber Ann Suri after she got addicted to huffing. The girl was just 17 years old. Her parents got little time to understand what was happening and before they could do anything, she passed away.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has asked the parents of teenagers to become aware of the dangers of huffing. The schools have also been asked to start awareness campaigns to enlighten the students on the issue. SAMHSA plans to hold National Inhalants and Poisons Awareness Week.
