London, Feb 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Taufeek Khanjar, a 104-year-old Iraqi native, has become the oldest naturalized citizen in Britain. The documentation to become a British was completed when he joined the ceremony at Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey.

After the ceremony, Taufeek told reporters that he was very happy with his new status. The ceremony involves swearing an allegiance to the Queen. He first moved to the United Kingdom in 2006 on the invitation of his daughter.

Taufeek is a widower and a father of six. Revealing the secret of his extraordinary health at such an advanced age, Taufeek told reporters that he avoids losing his temper.

Shortly after the ceremony, Taufeek told the reporters that, “I take it in my stride. If the world capsized I still wouldn’t strain myself. I keep busy by watching television, playing cards, reading and listening to music. I also like to repair watches and other broken items.”

Surrey County Council’s spokeswoman Denise Saliagopoulos said the council is proud of the achievement of Taufeek. She said that everyone who played a role in the making the ceremony a success is proud of what happened.

Taufeek is a retired jewellery maker. He enjoys repairing watches and watching television as his hobby.
