Aug 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Following the 228 million egg recall by Wright County Egg last week, the company on Wednesday expanded the egg recall list to 380 million eggs. Late on Wednesday many more batches and brands of eggs were listed for voluntary recall by Wright County Egg which maintained that it is fully cooperating with the federal Food and Drug Administration’s investigation by going for the voluntary recall.
While previously Wright County Egg recalled eggs packaged under the brand names of Lucerne, Albertsons, Ralph’s, Mountain Dairy, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Trafficanda, Hillandale, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Dutch Farms, Lund and Kemps, the company on Wednesday added brands like Albertsons, Farm Fresh, Glenview, James Farms, Ralphs, Mountain Dairy, Boomsma, Lund, Kemps and Pacific Coast bearing the three-digit codes ranging from 136 to 229 to the list. The company mentioned that brands that have plant numbers 1720 and 1942 are being recalled. Wright County Egg had previously recalled brands that bore the three digit codes ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946.
The company on Wednesday issued a statement justifying its recall and its plan with the eggs in question. Apart from cooperating with FDA’s investigation, Wright County Egg maintained that its primary concern is to keep salmonella, which is the most common kind of food bacteria causing food poisoning, out of the food supply and away from the consumers. The statement also maintained that as a precautionary measure, the company has decided to destroy its present stock from the recalled plants to a breaker. The Shell eggs in the breaker will be pasteurized to kill any salmonella bacteria present in them. More than three states in the country have reported increased number of Salmonella borne illnesses.
