World War II arsenal found in Russia
June 9th, 2011 - 3:34 pm ICT by IANSMoscow, June 9 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A huge cache of small arms from World War II have been discovered in a home in Russia, police said.
Experts were examining the weapons found in Bryansk city. Many of the weapons are German-made.
“We found five MG-34 machine-guns, two Russian-made Maxims, an MP-40 submachine-gun, 10 foreign and Russian-made pistols, two 45 mm artillery rounds, two grenades and about 3,000 rounds of ammunition,” a police official said.
An investigation has been launched. If the owner of the weapons is found guilty of illegal possession of arms, he could face four years in jail.
Bryansk - close to the border with Ukraine - was the scene of some of the biggest battles of World War II.
