Washington, May 14 (DPA) Swedish golfer Annika Sorenstam has announced that she will draw a curtain to her professional career at the end of the 2008 season. Sorenstam, 37, announced her retirement plans Tuesday, two days after winning her 72nd Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) title Sunday at the Michelob Ultra Open in Williamsburg, Virgina.
The Swedish golfer has won three tournaments this year after recovering from a back injury, which she sustained last year.
With Sunday’s $330,000 victory Sorenstam brought her career earnings to an LPGA record of $22 million.
