Woman trained as suicide bomber killed in Russia
July 24th, 2011 - 6:05 pm ICT by IANSMoscow, July 24 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Police killed three militants, including a woman trained as a suicide bomber, in the North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee said Sunday.
Police launched a special operation early Sunday after blocking a group of militants in a house in the town of Dagestaniskiye Ogni, some 120 km south of the capital Makhachkala.
As a result of the operation, three militants, including the woman, were killed. Another woman was wounded and detained by the police.
One of the gunmen was identified as Mekhtibek Bashirov, the head of the Derbent district terrorist group in Dagestan. Both women were on the federal wanted list as they had been trained by militants as suicide bombers, the committee said.
A large arsenal of weaponry was found in the house where the militants had been hiding.
