Woman jailed for burning fiance` to death
January 4th, 2012 - 12:18 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Jan 4 (IANS) A woman in Britain has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for killing her fiance by locking him up inside the couple’s workshop and setting fire to the building.
Julie Dixon murdered her fiance David Twigg by locking him in a storeroom at the couple’s workshop in Burgh le Marsh, Lincolnshire county, and setting fire to the building, the Daily Mail reported.
The 43-year-old then dialled emergency telephone no. 999, telling them she and her fiance` had been attacked by two masked intruders who were responsible for the killing.
She changed her story on the second day of her trial, however, when she first said his death was the result of a failed joint suicide pact and then saying it was an assisted suicide.
Twigg had died as a result of the fire which was lit March 13 last year.
Judge Heath told Dixon her performance in the 999 call and to the emergency crews at the scene, including to the firefighters and at the hospital “would have been worthy of the highest praise had she been an actress in some fictional drama and would have warranted an Oscar nomination.”
