New York, July 28 (IANS) Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse deliberately cuts herself to ease the pain of drug withdrawal, says her father Mitch. Winehouse sparked concerns on several occasions after appearing in public showing signs of self-abuse - mainly cuts on her arms, reports contactmusic.com.

Mitch has also revealed that Winehouse’s jailed husband Blake Fielder-Civil believed that self-harm eased the comedown from drugs.

“The self-harm has more to do with Blake. He explained to me that when they’re going into (drug) withdrawal, if they cut themselves, it takes away the pain,” said Mitch.

Mitch informed that the singer, who is currently working on her new album, uses these troubled times to find inspiration for new tracks.

“She only writes songs from her personal experiences, and they’re all more or less painful. It’s a shame. But that’s the way she is.”

The troubled singer is battling drug addiction, suffers from lung disease emphysema and her face is also showing marks of a skin disease called impetigo.
