William, Harry secretly visit hospitals to meet injured war heroes
September 28th, 2009 - 1:32 pm ICT by ANILondon, Sept 28 (ANI): Princes William and Harry have been covertly visiting hospitals to meet the soldiers who were wounded while posted in Afghanistan, it has emerged.
According to reports, the two princes also took presents for the soldiers and their families.
William and Harry are believed to have made their latest trip a week ago when they visited the military ward at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.
“Both Princes have become increasingly concerned as the number of soldiers wounded in Afghanistan has mounted,” the Mirror quoted a senior Army source as saying.
“They feel the very least they can do is visit those hurt in battle as frequently as they can. The trips are made in secret and they have not sought recognition for them.
“The Princes will sit and talk to troops for as long as the medics allow. But just as importantly they take time to speak to their families.
“Both William and Harry have been hugely moved and humbled by what they have seen in Selly Oak. What they find particularly powerful is the will of the wounded to get better, so they can rejoin their comrades in Helmand,” the source added.
The two brothers have been involved with the armed forces themselves - William, 27, will soon finish his training to become an RAF pilot, while Harry, 25, was part of the Household Cavalry fighting in Afghanistan’s Helmand province. (ANI)
