White House to go green with solar panels

London, Oct 6 (ANI): White House is all set to go green, for Barack Obama has finally agreed to install some solar panels on the presidential residence.
The solar panels are to be installed by spring 2011, and will heat water for the first family and supply some electricity.
Campaigners from the climate action group 350.org travelled to Washington DC early in September to push for this, bringing with them a set of solar panels that were installed on the roof of the West Wing between 1979 and 1986.
At the time they didn’t manage to extract any promises, but Obama seems to have changed his mind, reports New Scientist.
Meanwhile, on his blog, Dot Earth, Andrew Revkin pointed out that the White House cannot install very many solar panels in any case.
According to him the project is destined to run up against an immovable hurdle: a combination of the incredibly intertwined bureaucracy involved in doing anything to the White House and the authority of the Secret Service over anything that happens on that fabled roof.
However, the 350.org campaigners had argued that reinstalling solar would be a statement of purpose and demonstrate leadership on climate change. (ANI)
