White candidates banned from applying for Bristol Council job, cry foul at “racism”

London, June 2 (ANI): In an instance of reverse discrimination, white
candidates have been barred from participating in a two-year management course
offered by the Bristol city council. The course is now available only to people
from ethnic minorities.
The decision has come with a view to facilitate an increase in the number of
non-white employees.
Distraught white applicants are vociferously opposing the move, which they
believe is totally racist.
“I feel the job would be an
excellent opportunity for me to make use of the skills and qualifications I
have acquired - but being white I am excluded from applying,” The Daily Star
quoted a white job-seeker, as saying.
“Surely equal opportunities means giving everyone an equal chance to succeed
rather than discriminating against people because of the colour of their skin,”
he added indignantly.
Of the council’s 9,000 staff, 8,370 are white and 630 are from ethnic
minorities. That is 7% compared to 12% of the Bristol population being
non-white. (ANI)
