Washington, Dec 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) As family members and close friends of Elizabeth Edwards gear up for the her funeral service which has been planned for Saturday, members of the Westboro Baptist Church have made the announcement that they would be protesting against the service. The Kansas based religious group which is known to picket military funerals, made it clear through a statement that was released on the Internet on Thursday that it intends to picket the funeral service of John Edwards’ estranged wife as she did not do enough during her lifetime to praise God while she battled cancer for six long years.
The statement that has been issued in the official website of the anti-gay fundamental group read ‘God hates Elizabeth Edwards. Flee her example.’ It has been mentioned that the members of the religious group would protest against the funeral event in a demonstration for about 45 minutes prior to the event which is all set to take place over the weekend at Raleigh, North Carolina. In the statement, the Westboro Baptist Church also accused Elizabeth Edwards of causing what they called a ’smash-mouthed assault on His deity’ as well as ’spewing blasphemy.’
Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards passed away on Tuesday after fighting against cancer for six long years after she was first diagnosed with the killer disease way back in the year 2004. The noted attorney and health care campaigner would be laid to rest at the Edenton Street United Methodist Church during Saturday’s funeral service beside her son Wade, who died in a car crash at the age of 16.
