Washington, August 30, 2010 (Just Flashed): The Democratic Governor of the American state of West Virginia happens to be Joe Manchin. His Governorship has been characterized by his popularity. Meanwhile, Manchin has effortlessly attained his party’s endorsement and has been selected by his party to be one of the Democratic candidates for the American Senate. The crucial senatorial elections are going to be held across America in November this year. Manchin will face the right-wing Republican, John Raese, in the contest for the American senatorial seat possessed by the departed Robert C. Byrd. Raese had triumphed in the Republican primary. Raese happens to be a well-heeled businessperson vocationally. He trounced a multitude of Republican contenders for this seat.
The 60-year-old Raese is one of the many Republicans, who are eagerly desirous of witnessing the disintegration and nullification of the Democratic majority in the American Senate. The Democrats under President Obama have been vehemently opposed to the rightist positions of the Republicans on issues such as healthcare, financial restructuring etc. Therefore, the Republicans have spitefully labeled the Democrats as adherents of socialism. All in all, the Democrats are latching on to their senatorial majority as the proportion of joblessness amplifies in America. Its sluggish financial recuperation has created resentment in the minds of a segment of Americans against the Democratic Party.
Raese had been defeated by Byrd in 2006. Byrd happened to be the longest-serving member of the American Congress and was the longest-functioning American Senator. Byrd had passed away two months back at the age of 92. He was a member of the Democratic Party. The latest primary in West Virginia in which Manchin triumphed was conducted on Saturday.
