Welsh sisters have to avoid excitement as it could kill them

London, Mar 11 (ANI): Two girls in Wales, who suffer from an ultra-rare heart abnormality, have to avoid ever being shocked or excited, as it could kill them.

Chloe Church, 14, and her sister Evie, 11, of Swansea, suffer from an abnormality called Long QT syndrome, and they both have to avoid any sort of adrenaline rush as it could be fatal.

They are banned from having alarm clocks in case waking with a start gives one of them a heart attack, and teachers at their school also have to warn them whenever the bell is about to sound.

Scary films or TV programmes are off limits, along with lively sports and energy drinks, and doctors fear falling in love could also be lethal.

“I have had my first kiss and I survived. But I’ve never had the stress of a broken heart,” the Sun quoted Chloe as saying.

Her sister was the first to be diagnosed - when she suffered an unrelated kidney problem 2 and half years ago and went for a hospital scan, and tests showed that Chloe also had the condition.

Medics are still trying to discover just how much excitement the pair can safely handle.

For now Chloe can only envy friends who are able to go to under-18s club nights.

“She’s frustrated we won’t let her go. She also gets annoyed she can’t do energetic sports like swimming, hockey or football,” her mum, Samantha, 43, a sales assistant, said.

“The school even has to tell them when the bell is going to go.

“Sometimes it just feels like a time bomb waiting to go off. I feel on edge all the time - panicking when my phone rings in case it’s bad news.

“I do hope they discover a cure. I would love my girls to be able to do everything they want,” she added. (ANI)
