‘We had the kitchen sink thrown at us,’ says Indian American S. Carolina governor candidate
June 9th, 2010 - 5:50 pm ICT by ANIWashington, June 9 (ANI): The Republican primary race for the South Carolina governor’s nomination is headed for a bruising runoff election after Indian American Nikki Haley, who is trying to become the state’s first female chief executive, overcame accusations of marital infidelity.
Haley, a state legislator, fell just short of claiming an outright majority of votes and now faces a June 22 primary with Representative J. Gresham Barrett, a four-term congressman.”We had the kitchen sink thrown at us,” Haley said in an interview on Tuesday.
“We are a state of great people. We are a state of dirty politics,” the New York Times quoted her as saying further. In recent weeks, men allied with her opponents have twice accused Haley of infidelity.
She fiercely denied the suggestions and promised to break up an entrenched network that has dominated state politics for decades. (ANI)
