Vivian Schiller Apologizes For Comment On Juan Williams

vivian-schillerOct 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Vivian Schiller, President and CEO of National Public Radio, is under fire for her own comments after firing Juan Williams for his comments on Fox News. Juan Williams was fired on Wednesday from the National Public Radio, for saying that he gets nervous on seeing Muslims dressed in traditional garb on airplanes. Vivian Schiller pointed out that Juan Williams was appointed as a news analyst and not as a commentator or columnist. He should have kept from getting personal on public issues. The incident backfired on Vivian Schiller when she said that Juan Williams has a psychiatrist and should have kept the issue between himself and his psychiatrist.

Vivian Schiller quickly apologized for her remarks. She said that she had spoken in haste and apologized to Juan Williams and others for her thoughtless remark. The company policy of National Public Radio as per Vivian Schiller states that in case of a commentator or columnist, the concerned person is invited by them to be controversial. However, Juan Williams was none of those and as a news analyst, his is strictly prohibited from voicing his personal opinion on public issues. Their policy also takes into account the activities of their news analysts as guests on other media shows.

Vivian Schiller also clarified that this was not the first instance when Juan Williams had crossed his limits. There have been many numerous instances in the past when he was warned of this distinction. The incident has created a big controversy for Vivian Schiller over her psychiatrist remark on Juan Williams.
