Jan 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Vincent McCrudden, a former commodities trader was arrested on late Thursday on charges of issuing online threats to kill 47 U.S. government officials. The matter got grave after it was found that the persons whom he had threatened also included Mary Schapiro, Chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission and Gary Gensler, Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman.
FBI officials said that the 49-year-old money manager from New York was arrested from Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey after he arrived from Singapore. Richard Kolko, a spokesperson for FBI said that they have arrested Vincent McCrudden on two counts of issuing threat to individuals. According to federal prosecutors, the incident took place after CFTC issued an enforcement action against Vincent McCrudden, accusing him and two companies run by him, of operating unregistered investments. In a fit of rage, Vincent McCrudden threatened the country’s top securities and commodities regulators by posting an ‘execution list’ on the web. The list featured the names of 49 U.S. officials including the CFTC and SEC chairmen.
Vincent McCrudden, for whom this is not the first tryst with the law, has pleaded not guilty in the court. He already has a history of a series of legal hassles. After Vincent McCrudden’s arrest, his legal attorney Bruce Barket told media that Vincent McCrudden has filed for the petition in U.S. District Court, Central Islip. After the last weekend’s Arizona shootings where U.S Congress leader Gabrielle Giffords was shot, security officials are taking no chances. E. Thomas Boyle, an U.S. Magistrate Judge said that the threats issued by Vincent McCrudden comes across as a kind of real threat.
