Vietnamese entrepreneur to build world’s largest jade Buddha
January 19th, 2010 - 5:43 pm ICT by ANILondon, January 19 (ANI): A Vietnamese entrepreneur is preparing to build the world’s largest jade Buddha.
Dao Trong Cuong, the owner of a Vietnamese gem mine, unveiled a massive precious stone, which will be chipped away to the statue of the holy figure.
He purchased the 35-tonne stone worth 2-million-dollars in Burma last year, before importing it to his country in October.
Now, a total of 50 artists and sculptors will work at the 10ft tall, 6ft 6in wide and 6ft 6in deep stone.
“We hope to get it into the Guinness Book of World Records,” the Scotsman quoted Cuong as saying.
President Nguyen Minh Triet was present at the unveiling ceremony too.
He said: “This unique artistic work will be passed on to many generations.”
However, Cuong added that it would take two years to complete the statue.
The world’s biggest existing jade Buddha weighs four tonnes and stands 9ft tall. (ANI)
