Vancouver rated ‘most liveable city’ in the world
February 22nd, 2011 - 12:53 pm ICT by ANILondon, Feb 22 (ANI): Based on stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure, Vancouver has been named the best city in the world to live in.
According to the latest annual ranking compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, the Canadian west coast city topped the list for the fifth straight year, reports the Daily Mail.
Melbourne claimed second place, while third went to Vienna.
London made it only to number 53, while Manchester was placed at number 42.
Each city receives a rating out of 100, with 100 percent considered to be ideal and 0 percent intolerable.
Manchester, which moved up three places from last year, had an average rating of 90 percent, with London, up one place, on 88.4 percent.
“(London) benefits from strong cultural and recreational activities, but scores less well on the perceived threat from crime or terror,” said survey editor Jon Copestake.
“These challenges are the same that many global cities face and, with only 1.6 per cent separating them, London and Manchester have similar levels of liveability,” he added.
Vancouver scored 98 percent. The health care and education standards offered by Australia and Canada were factors in their cities’ continued dominance of the list.
Companies across the globe use the annual survey to determine levels of employee allowances as part of expatriate relocation packages. (ANI)
