Uttar Pradesh police foil Maoist terror plans

Lucknow, Aug 9(IANS) The Uttar Pradesh police Saturday claimed to have foiled a bid by Maoists to plant mines and set off explosions in Sonbhadra district. “The Naxalities (Maoists) had planted mines along the Chargara road in Sonbhadra,” Superintendent of Police Ram Kumar told IANS.

Sonbhadra is about 250 km from the state capital Lucknow.

“Acting on a tip off, we launched a search operation in the area and found 40 kg of explosives along with detonators,” he added.

Bomb disposal squads have been called in for further investigations, the official added.
