Uttar Pradesh official killed in road accident
November 5th, 2010 - 7:05 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Nov 5 (IANS) An Uttar Pradesh government official was killed Friday when a speeding truck rammed into his car in Allahabad district. His wife and two children were critically injured, police said.
Nalin Awasthi, posted as secretary in the Varanasi Development Authority, and his family were on their way to his home town Kanpur for Diwali. Awasthi died on the spot after the truck hit his car in Soraon area, some 200 km from Lucknow.
“According to witnesses, the truck spun out of the driver’s control and ploughed into the official’s car…His wife, 15-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter received multiple injuries,” police inspector Dhananjay Verma told reporters in Allahabad.
“All three are being treated at a hospital and their condition is stated to be serious,” he added.
The truck driver, who ran away after the accident, was later arrested.
