US seizes $26 mn cocaine shipment
July 4th, 2012 - 11:17 am ICT by IANSMiami, July 4 (IANS/EFE) The US Coast Guard has announced that it had seized a shipment of more than 900 kg of cocaine valued at more than $26 million in the waters south of the Dominican Republic.
The incident occurred June 23, when the Coast Guard intercepted a 10-meter boat traveling at high speed 144 km south of Punta Beata.
The Coast Guard intercepted the suspicious vessel in international waters, boarded it and found that it was carrying a shipment of cocaine.
Since Oct 1, 2011, the Coast Guard has seized a total of 34,000 kg of cocaine at sea.
The seized cocaine shipment was unloaded by the Coast Guard in Port Canaveral, Florida.
