US ready to help in Mumbai terror probe
November 29th, 2008 - 10:10 pm ICT by IANS - Send to a friend:New Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS) The US is ready to offer “full cooperation” to India to investigate the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, US ambassador David Mulford told Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon Saturday.Mulford said the US offer could include sending security teams.
“President (George W.) Bush has directed us to offer cooperation to Indian authorities in any way that we can. We will be doing that,” Mulford told reporters after meeting Menon at South Block, the seat of India’s external affairs ministry.
“The US is very skilled in this field. We are, as you know, engaged in a global war on terror,” he said.
“The US is duty bound to cooperate, provide assistance and to become engaged in the investigative process,” he said, while expressing sympathy of the American people for the Mumbai terror attacks.
The envoy did not rule out the possibility of a Federal Investigation of Bureau (FBI) team coming to India to assist in the probe.
“Our security people will cooperate in any way they can, including coming to India to offer assistance,” he said.
