London, Feb 16 (ANI): A man in the US has been accused of imprisoning a woman and turning her into his sex slave for more than a week after she accepted his offer of a free room on Craigslist.

According to the New York Post, John Hopkins had reportedly told the 27-year-old woman that she could have the room for free if she cooked and cleaned, and he even paid for her flight, the Daily Mail reported.

He picked her up from JFK airport on February 4. But as soon as they got to his apartment in Humboldt Street, Hopkins told the woman, who had moved from Wisconsin, she was to be his “slave”.

He then allegedly blindfolded her, gagged her and tied her to the radiator before beating her up and raping her and keeping her as a slave for nine days.

Police sources said Hopkins allowed her to leave for a job she had been offered at a restaurant in Manhattan, but she did not call the police while she was away from him.

The newspaper reported that she did call her mother, who alerted the NYPD, who in turn found her “shaking” on Hopkins’s bed.

The NYPD revealed that officers from the 90th precinct arrested Hopkins at his house in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

He has been charged with first-degree rape, committing a criminal sexual act, and an array of other charges including assault and unlawful imprisonment. (ANI)
