Kabul, May 6 (Xinhua) Several militants were killed during an operation by the US-led coalition forces in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, according to a coalition statement issued here Tuesday. The coalition forces Monday searched several compounds in the Achin district of Nangarhar for a Taliban militant suspected of aiding foreign fighters, and conducting homemade explosives and weapons facilitation operations, it said.
The statement added that “several armed militants” were killed during the operation and during a follow up search the coalition forces identified the targeted militant and detained him.
Around 20,000 multinational forces led by the US are deployed in Afghanistan, mostly in the restive eastern regions.
