US lawmaker says he has no confidence in Pak Govt.April 25th, 2009 - 12:39 pm ICT by ANI
Washington, Apr.25 (ANI): US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey has said that he has no faith in Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s Government, as it is administration that consistently reneges on deals that it makes.
“I have absolutely no confidence in the ability of the existing Pakistan government to do one blessed thing. And without a functioning government focused on the right issues in Pakistan, we cannot achieve our goals in that region,” the Daily Times quoted Obey, as saying.
“Americans are funny people. It seems to me in our nature that we think there is a solution for everything. But we also run into some problems that at best can simply be managed but not solved,” he added.
“I am convinced that this is one of those problems that we can’t solve; we can at best manage. They need to know we’re not going to be stuck there backing them up forever,” he told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
He made these remarks when Clinton appeared before his panel on the White House’s 83.4 billion dollar request to fund continued military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and a beefed-up spending to forge a closer partnership with Pakistan. (ANI)
