US drone attack kills 15 in Pakistan (Lead)

Parachinar (Pakistan), Feb 16 (IANS) An attack by US drones killed 15 people in Pakistan’s Kurram region, a media report said Monday.

“Four US drones fired four missiles at suspected hideouts of militants in Sarpal area of tehsil Sadda of lower Kurram. At least 15 people were killed in the attack,” Geo TV reported.

There was a camp of Afghan commander Bahram Khan Kochi in Sarpal area, the report quoted sources as saying.

US drones continued patrolling in the area after the attack.

This was the first US drone attack in Kurram Agency. However, drones had made regular flights in these areas in the past.

Kurram tribal agency is located in the Federally Administered Tribal Area. It covers the scenic Kurram Valley in the northwestern part of Pakistan, neighbouring Afghanistan.
