Dec 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) While on one hand America is rejoicing over the “DADT” repeal, senator John McCain strongly criticized the movement. As the Senate voted against the military ban, John McCain called it a sad day for the nation as he feels that the Americans will understand the consequences later. On the other hand, US Defense Secretary Robert Gates welcomed the ban of the policy and said that after President Barack Obama signs the policy they US military would immediately take necessary actions to make basic changes in US military.
However, Senator John McCain said that when America passes this legislation they would understand that they are doing a “great damage” to the country. John McCain’s comment comes as a surprise to everyone as back in 2006 he said just the opposite of what he said after the repeal. In 2006, he said that the American Senator should take necessary steps to change the policy of “DADT” to ensure equality among everyone. The Pentagon officials released a survey study last month which stated that “DADT” repeal would not affect US military adversely. However, John McCain criticized the and called it a flawed survey.
On the other hand Robert Gates embraced the policy and declared at the press conference that Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Clifford Stanley would lead the process of making necessary changes in the US troops. The US Defense secretary said that the appeal will be implemented after the secretary of defense, the president and also the joint chiefs’ chairman certify the regulations and new policies of the state. However, in the end, he said that though “DADT” policy has been banned but the officials would take some “additional period of time” to implement it.
