US confident of hammering out West Bank settlement solution with Israel

Washington, June 5(ANI): A senior administration official says Washington feels “an arrangement can be hammered out with Israel on the Jewish settlement issue.”
“There’s a professional, constructive dialogue on this issue. We have differences, but believe we can find an arrangement that works,” The Jerusalem Post quoted the official, as saying.
Washington and Jerusalem are continuing to have a conversation about a two-state solution, something which US President Barack Obama had forcefully backed in Cairo on Thursday but which Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is yet to approve. The official stressed that Obama’s visit and his speech was not a one-time effort to mingle with the Islamic world, and supported the idea was continuous dialogue with Muslims.
Israeli officials are struggling to understand what precisely Obama meant when he discussed the settlement issue in his speech.
“The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements. This construction violates previous agreements and undermines efforts to achieve peace. It is time for these settlements to stop,” Obama had said on Thursday. (ANI)
