US concerned about safety of Libya’s oil reserves, not peace: Castro
February 23rd, 2011 - 3:07 pm ICT by ANICuba, Feb.23 (ANI): Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro has said that America is not worried about maintaining peace in Libya but is more concerned about country’s oil reserves.
In a column published in Cuban state media, Castro argued that Washington’s long stranded aim is to control Libya’s oil supplies.
“Washington will not hesitate to order a Nato invasion of the oil-rich North African country, in a matter of hours or a few days”, he said.
He made no direct reference about the clashes between security forces and protesters in Libya, and wrote: “We will have to wait the necessary time to know exactly how much is truth or lies”.
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and Castro have been allies for many years. Both share a revolutionary history and a fierce opposition to the US.
Castro led Cuba for almost 50 years and handed over control to his brother Raul Castro in 2006. (ANI)
