US Coast Guard seizes 1.4 tonnes of cocaine
June 8th, 2010 - 4:45 pm ICT by IANSSan Juan (Puerto Rico), June 8 (IANS/EFE) The US Coast Guard seized 1.4 tonnes of cocaine valued at $46 million and arrested five Hondurans aboard a boat intercepted about 54 km northwest of Aruba, an official said.
The US Coast Guard, Caribbean Corridor Task Force and the Dutch naval units based in Aruba jointly carried out the operation, US Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez-Velez said in a statement Monday.
Aruba Island is located in the southern Caribbean Sea.
The Panamanian-flagged vessel Two Brothers was intercepted in international waters and escorted to San Juan, where the Hondurans will face charges in US federal court, the statement said. The street value of the seized cocaine is $46 million.
