Chinese Ambassador Li Baodong, the current president of the panel, initiated an open debate to discuss the complexity and interconnections of continued instability, terrorism, the deteriorating humanitarian situation and growing instances of piracy and armed robbery at sea off the coast of Somalia.
The open council meeting drew 40 speakers, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, Prime Minister of Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government ( TFG).
It provided a platform for extensive discussions to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to bring peace and stability to Somalia at the earliest.
The Council meeting is a part of efforts taken by the international community to resolve the crisis in Somali, Xinhua reports.
