Selangor, Jan 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Malaysia doesn’t look kindly on couples who are unmarried and are seen getting up, close and personal. More than 50 unmarried couples were arrested in Malaysia when various raids were conducted on hotels. According to Malaysian laws, these acts are punishable and looked down upon, very severely.
If the sexual misconducts are proved, then the couples in question might have to face jail-time of up to two years too. Apart from this, they might have to pay some fines too. The reports state that the couples were arrested from the budget hotels located in central Selangor on the night of December 31.
It has been reported that most of the people who were arrested on that day were either young factory workers or students. However, sources also state that an elderly woman of 54 years was also among the unmarried couples, who were booked under the Islamic Shariah law of Malaysia. The woman, who is reported to be a grandmother of eight children, was seen in a compromising position with a man much younger than her. The man was just 38 years old, and when the police officers conducted the raid on that hotel and knocked on their door, then both of them were found in a compromising position.
Sharia Law says that unmarried couples should not be in secluded areas or confined spaces. Such behavior gives rise to the doubt that they are engaging in immoral conduct. Therefore, they are subject to being arrested and charged with being in ‘close proximity’. Malaysia unmarried couples have been subjected to being charged with being in close proximity as per the constraints of Sharia Law, Muslim law.
