Undetected ‘fake bomb’ travels to Turkey on UK cargo flight
March 30th, 2011 - 2:54 pm ICT by ANILondon, Mar.30 (ANI): The United Kingdom Department for Transport has started an investigation to find out how a fake bomb was transported on a UPS cargo plane from the UK to Turkey, without being detected.
A Department for Transport spokesman said: “We have already begun an investigation which will look at all aspects of this incident, including UPS’s procedures.”
” UK has one of the toughest security regimes for air cargo in the world. All security measures are subject to continuous review,” he added.
The device travelled undetected to Istanbul on a flight operated by UPS, the same airline that carried a bomb disguised as a printer ink cartridge to the East Midlands airport in October, BBC reports.
The package reportedly containing a timer, wires and a detonator, was disguised as a wedding cake box and had been delivered to a UPS office in Camden, north London by a Turkish man, a few days ago.
Details of which UK airport the flight took off from have not been released at this stage. (ANI)
