New York, Oct 11 (DPA) A UN surveillance plane carrying six to 10 UN peacekeepers went down in Haiti Friday, but the cause of the crash was not immediately known, the UN said.
The military plane belonging to the Uruguayan contingent of the UN mission in Haiti was monitoring the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the UN said.

It went down in an area called Fonds-Verrettes, which appears inaccessible. There was no immediate information about the fate of the peacekeepers and the UN has launched an investigation.

The UN mission has more than 7,000 military and civilian personnel in Haiti, which provides security and helps train Haiti’s national police.
