Dhaka, Nov 15 (IANS) UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon Tuesday visited Bangladesh’s northeastern district of Moulvibazar and visited a community clinic to look at the healthcare provided to mothers and babies.

“Having a healthy mother and having a healthy baby can help build a good nation,” Ban was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

Moulvibazar is about 210 km from the capital Dhaka.

The UN chief said Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in providing healthcare to the poor.

“I’m here to showcase these success stories to other countries of the world,” he said.

Ban also lauded the role played by the government, people and NGOs.

“You are on the right track to meet the Millennium Development Goal of reducing mortality rates of mothers and neonatal,” he told the rural women.

Ban, who was accompanied by his wife, also met adolescent girls and discussed the topic of early marriage with them.
